AXIAL FLOW TURBINE The axial flow turbine is a classic medium shear impeller. Very effective in both low viscosity and high, this impeller allows a mixer to the break up agglomeration and impart solids effectively. They will draw more power per volume than the propellers or hydrofoils as motor power is converted to shear energy. This impeller can have a reduced blade width (RBW)design to drop the power requirements at the same diameter.This impeller type allows a mixer to the break up agglomerations and impart solids effectively. Each blade is pitched at a 45 degreeangle and manufactured to leave an edge for the liquid to move over creating a localized shear area.

Axial flow impellers are very useful in mixing solid-liquid suspensions because they prevent the solid particles from settling at the bottom of the tank. The type and geometry of impeller used will vary from process to process and the determination of the best geometry for a specific process requires a great deal of experimentation.
